Wine we like: Valter Mlečnik, Cuvee Ana, 2007, Vipava Valley, Slovenia
February 4, 2014
I met Valter quite some years ago in Verona. It was the second year of Vini Veri. Because we are both from Slovenia we talked long and I tasted all his wines, I think twice. After that I couldn’t forget his extraordinary wines (especially chardonnays) ... Not only because of their high quality, but also because of letters Valter wrote to me. His letters were all about “natural wines” and how to produce wine as natural as it gets. His thoughts every time written down on several pages were revolutionary than and are so actual today.
Cuvee Ana is for me “the next big thing” (after excellent chardonnays) from Valter’s cellar. It’s breath taking cuvee (rebula, zelen, pinela, chardonnay) ... If you want to taste something white, macerated, with stonning aromas, elegant body, great harmony and winning price performance – Cuvee Ana is must for you!
My only criticism (based on my professional deformation) on Valter is about his new label – I think the old one was much more Valter (therefore it’s not surprising that the designer didn’t change the logo, but integrated it into new label).
