Wine we like: Chateau Kamnik, merlot, 2010, Macedonia
January 15, 2014
I had the honor to prepare wine samples for the wine competition of the 16th Slovenian wine festival. There was room full of wine boxes from Slovenia and abroad, but only boxes from one cellar stood out. They were one of the most beautiful and modern wine boxes I’ve ever seen – in black and white, made from precious paper and with lacquer inscriptions. It was the box from Chateau Kamnik – Macedonian cellar, among wine experts known as “Sassicaia of the Balkans.” And it was the trigger to taste their wines.
Ah, their wines, their red wines – pure poetry ... My favorite wine was their merlot, vintage 2010 – deep ruby color, complex on the nose (aromas from overripe red fruit were hand in hand with aromas of chocolate, leather, coffee), elegant body and great elegance; and lots of potential for ageing. I wish more such extraordinary wines my glass in this year :-)
