Our first idea according the name of our new project was the word terroir. But when we discussed it throughout, we came to the conclusion – the direction of the meaning is right, but we needed word(s) with wider meaning. After some brain storming, the solution was born – genius loci – one of the first terms I’ve learned at the Faculty for architecture. When we added design, Genius loci design was born.
In classical Roman religion a genius loci was the protective spirit of a place. In contemporary usage, genius loci usually refers to a location's distinctive atmosphere, or a spirit of place. For us in the modern context of design genius loci stands for designing (spirit of) the place, stories and moments.
In the picture above the GENIUS LOCI refers to interwining of vineards, sea and the yacht. They are all together DESIGNing the story about WINE SAILING arround dalmatian island Brač.
